[c]ACourt moved against 'facilities' provided to Davis.

The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court on Monday issued a notice to the federal government on a civil miscellaneous application challenging alleged facilities being provided to double murder accused US citizen Raymond Allen Davis in the Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey filed the application in his already pending main case regarding Raymond, requesting the court to order the jail authorities to withdraw all the facilities being given to the accused.

Barrister Jaffrey alleged that the accused was enjoying facility of cellular phone, internet and extraordinary tight security in violation of the jail manual. He also prayed to the court to order recording of Raymond trial in the jail.

The applicant said that deputy attorney general, who represents the Federation in the court, be directed to file on March 14, the next hearing on the main case, a report regarding developments and progress in the Raymond Davis case and not to waste time of the court by giving verbal dillydallying statements.

He also prayed to the court that former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi should be summoned in the court for recording of his statement as he had said that Raymond had no diplomatic immunity. After hearing the contention, the CJ asked DAG Naveed Inayat Malik, who was present in the courtroom, to file a reply on the application by March 14.
