FED:Treasurer says CPI rise 'unsurprising'=6

The ABS said fruit prices increased by 14.5 per cent in the March quarter mainly due
to an increase of 100 per cent in the cost of bananas following floods and Cyclone Yasi.

Vegetable prices jumped 16 per cent driven by price rises in cauliflowers, broccoli,
lettuce, pumpkin and potatoes due to damaged crops as well as usual seasonal price rises.

Automotive fuel escalated 8.8 per cent.

"Fruit and vegetable prices (combined) rose 15.3 per cent, contributing around 0.4
percentage points to growth in the CPI," Mr Swan said.

"Automotive fuel prices rose 8.8 per cent, contributing around 0.3 percentage points
to quarterly inflation."
